UPDATE: Suspect's Sketch Released In Rape Of South Sacramento Senior
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A 64-year-old south Sacramento woman was raped and robbed, and the suspect has not been caught.
The victim told CBS13 she had just returned home from shopping and walked through the front door of her apartment when a young man followed right behind her and immediately began choking and assaulting her, throwing her to the floor.
The incident happened Feb. 6 at about 6:15 p.m. in the 4900 block of El Paraiso Avenue, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
The sheriff's department released a sketch of the suspect on Thursday and described him as a black male between 17 and 19, about 5-foot-9, with a thin build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a short-sleeved white T-shirt with black, horizontal stripes and dark blue jeans.
The victim's son can't believe anyone would do this - brutally rape, beat and rob his mother.
"I was emotional," he said Tuesday. "I almost break into tears."
When he was done, the suspect reportedly grabbed her by the hair and literally dragged her into another room to steal her belongings and then tossed her aside like trash and ran out the door.
"The problem is a lot of these senior citizen here, they don't speak English," her son said, "a lot of them, and that's the main ones that he targets."
It's low income housing here with lots of seniors who don't speak English. Since the attack, many people on this block are on high alert.
"They don't know who to complain to," the son said. "That's the problem with my mom."
The victim's son says this is the second rape of a senior citizen in this complex in the last two years. He believes the women are sitting ducks.
"A lot of this goes by because the senior citizens in here don't speak English," he repeated. "That's why they never complain."
The victim and her family are really concerned about her safety and at this point no one has been arrested. Police say the suspect could be between 17 and 20.
