South Sacramento Mom Uses Golf Club To Chase Off Suspected Burglars

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Her south Sacramento home is guarded by a professional security company, but the mom who lives there didn't need them. All she needed was her daughter's golf club.

I opened the slider a little more and poked my head out and said 'You have two seconds before I kill you, you better start running,'" Monica Harper said of her encounter.

Yes, two suspected burglars clearly picked the wrong house to try to break into...

"My kids are under the age of 5, they're 5 and 2, and so just the idea that he thought he could come in my house," she said.

Monica wasn't going to let anyone get near her kids so when she saw two suspected burglars in her backyard. She was ready to protect.

But add that she had just gotten her makeup done for her birthday party that night, and it was on.

"I went and got my golf club, my daughter's golf club," she said.

And Super Monica was off, chasing the two bad guys down the street. brandishing the mini golf club.

"It was my birthday. I had fake eyelashes on and curls in my hair, and I'm sure it was pretty funny watching me run down the street," she said.

It wasn't funny to the suspects. They jumped a fence and hid in a backyard before police caught them.

"I probably shouldn't have chased them because what if they had been armed and I'm not a very big person," she said.

It turns out the suspects were teens. Monica said police told her they had burglarized other houses in the neighborhood...

And after all that, Monica had quite the story to tell at her birthday party, which happened to be blast - fake eyelashes and all.

"That was my only thought running, 'I hope my eyelashes don't fall off,'" she said.

Monica says she's going to spend her next birthday out of town on vacation. She says she's earned it. Maybe she should go on a golfing vacation.
