Some People Have Reservations About New Roseville Hotel Plans
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) - Roseville city leaders are moving forward with plans for a new nine-story hotel next to the Roseville Galleria shopping mall.
On Wednesday the City Council will consider approving the environmental impact report and project permits.
The nine-story structure would have more than 200 rooms, along with a conference center, restaurant, fitness facility, spa, and outdoor pool. It is expected to cost more than $60 million.
A city survey shows most people support the project, however some are concerned about increased traffic and the public partnership needed to build the hotel.
Caltrans says it will increase traffic jams in the area of the Highway 65 and Interstate 80 interchange, which is already routinely backed up during peak hours.
More than one-third of the survey participants were opposed to spending taxpayer money on the project.
Hotel supporters say there is a big demand for a full-service hotel that could host conferences, and it would have a significant positive economic impact by bringing in new tax revenue and creating more than 200 permanent jobs.
City officials are still working on the financing and ownership structure of the public-private partnership that will operate the hotel.
They hope to break ground in the spring of 2015, and be open by the fall of 2016.
