Solider From Yuba City Killed In Afghanistan
YUBA CITY (CBS13) - A U.S. Army solider from Yuba City was killed during an attack in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Wednesday.
Spc. Chase S. Marta, 24, was one of three soldiers killed on Monday in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device.
The Department of Defense listed Marta's hometown as Chico but he graduated from Yuba City High School and has family in Yuba City, according to the Appeal-Democrat.
The other men killed were Sgt. Jacob M. Schwallie, 22, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Pfc. Dustin D. Gross, 19, of Jeffersonville, Ky.
They were assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
