Forward Progress Stopped On Fire That Prompted Evacuation Order For Smartsville
SMARTSVILLE (CBS13) -- The latest on a growing fire near Smartsville in Yuba County:
5:11 p.m.
The final acreage for the Smartsville Fire is 6.5 acres, Cal Fire said. The fire is now 75% contained and firefighters say five outbuildings were destroyed.
4:30 p.m.
Cal Fire updated the burn area to be 6 acres in size with a total of five structures destroyed.
Containment is up to 40 percent, Cal Fire says.
2:37 p.m.
Cal Fire reports that firefighters have stopped the forward progress of the fire.
A total of 12 acres have burned. Containment is up to 20 percent, Cal Fire says.
Three outbuildings were destroyed, firefighters say.
Expect firefighters out at the scene for mop-up work.
2:23 p.m.
The Yuba County Office of Emergency Services has issued an evacuation order for the town of Smartsville and surrounding areas due to the uncontained grass fire.
Smartsville is an unincorporated town with a population of just under 200 people. It's about 14 miles west of Gras Valley along Highway 20.
1:07 p.m.
The incident is happening along Smartsville Road.
According to Cal Fire, about 5 acres have burned so far and flames are continuing to spread. No containment has been reported so far.
Only a barn is threatened at this point, firefighters say, but one civilian has suffered a burn injury.
More resources are being called to the scene, Cal Fire says.
