Skydiver Dies After Landing In Lake Tahoe Near Camp Richardson
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE (CBS13) - One of the three skydivers who landed in the waters of Lake Tahoe on Tuesday morning was found dead submerged in the lake.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office started receiving calls at about 8:45 a.m. regarding a skydiving accident near Camp Richardson in South Lake Tahoe. Callers said three skydivers landed in the lake and appeared to be in distress.
Two of the skydivers were rescued but the third couldn't be found until about two hours later when his body was recovered by divers.
The victim was identified as Robert Ranieri, 29, of South Lake Tahoe.
According to the other two skydivers, the three are experienced skydivers and rented a flight on a helicopter with the intent to skydive over Lake Tahoe and land on the shore line near Camp Richardson. Their parachutes reportedly all deployed, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the three ended up in the water instead of the shore.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident.
