Skeleton Remains Found In Yuba County Identified As Suspect's Girlfriend

YUBA COUNTY (CBS13) - Skeletal remains found in Yuba County have been identified as the ex-girlfriend of a man now accused of murder.

Vanessa Hobbs' remains were found in the backyard of her former boyfriend Steven Knoefler.

The Yuba County Sheriff's office says dental records confirmed the remains belonged to Hobbs.

One Neighbor tells CBS13 he wasn't surprised to hear that Knoefler was arrested for murder.

"He came by here one time at 60-70 miles an hour and he was hitting pigeons and hitting quail crossing the road," said Michael Fish, a neighbor of the suspect.   "He didn't seem to care about anything other than himself."

Detectives believe the suspect murdered his ex-girlfriend in 2008, right around the last time anybody had seen her.
