Shooting Narrowly Misses Innocent Family

ROSEMONT (CBS13) -- Gunshots struck a vehicle carrying a mother, her two children and an uncle, narrowly missing the occupants and leading to the arrest of a Sacramento resident.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department arrested 24-year-old Dayne Salcedo after he allegedly opened fire at a rival across a busy intersection late Sunday afternoon, striking a car occupied by Rebecca Lu-Way and her family.

Lu-Way said her 8-year-old son, 14-year-old daughter, and uncle were caught off guard when bullets started to fly across the intersection of Kiefer Boulevard and South Port Drive at about 5:30 p.m.

"There's no reason behind it. I mean, this guy was just shooting. Anybody could have got hurt," she said.

One of the bullets struck the family's car, narrowly missing Rebecca. "We pulled over immediately and saw that we were hit," she said.

A witness reported Salcedo's license plate to authorities, and investigators tracked him down and arrested him on various firearms charges.

Although they were uninjured, the experience has left the family shaken up, Rebecca said.

"I'm kind of afraid to drive on Kiefer now," she said.

Salcedo is being held on $100,000 bail.
