Shipping Problems In Short, Busy Season Delay Christmas Presents
CARMICHAEL (CBS13) — A shorter holiday shopping season and a crush of last-minute shopping left some people without Christmas presents for family members.
Eric Swanson bought his daughter and wife gifts online with a promise that they would arrive at his Carmichael home by Tuesday night.
"It says expected delivery Tuesday, Dec. 24," he said.
According to Amazon, Swanson's gift for his little girl he ordered on Sunday is still listed as "In transit" on Christmas and on-time for its Christmas Eve delivery.
Swanson's not alone. Bad weather in parts of the country earlier this week and high customer demand in a short shopping season is to blame for delays.
UPS explained on its website "the volume of air packages in our system exceeded the capacity of our network immediately preceding Christmas."
"My wife I could talk to about it, but we were hoping to get this for my daughter," Swanson said.
Next time, he says, he'll take his wife's advice and skip online shopping in favor of the mall instead.
"I won't make that same mistake again," he said.
