Machete-Wielding Suspect Dies After Rancho Cordova Shooting
RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) – A suspect who allegedly threatened police has died after being shot Friday afternoon by a Rancho Cordova Police officer, authorities said.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said the suspect, whose identity has not been released, had a machete on his back while riding a bicycle near Folsom Boulevard and Dawes Street at about 2:20 p.m.
Officers approached the man from behind and ordered him to surrender, but the man reportedly jumped off his bike and spun towards authorities, moving toward them in an aggressive manner.
Officers fired several shots into the man's upper body, but the wounded man kept reaching for a weapon, possibly a gun, authorities said.
Authorities took the man into custody and rushed him to the hospital for treatment, but the man died Friday afternoon.
