Sheriff: Vehicle Catches Fire After Chase Ends In South Sacramento
Update: CHP said the chase started Tuesday evening when an East Sacramento CHP Sergeant monitoring a call from El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies who were tailing a vehicle, observed that vehicle pass his location.
The CHP Sgt. attempted to make a vehicle stop, but the vehicle took off at high speeds down Highway 50 toward Sunrise Boulevard.
Officials say the truck led multiple agencies on a high-speed pursuit, driving erratically and colliding with at least three other vehicles in Sacramento County.
After going down Power Inn Road and Palmerhouse Road at high speeds, heading south, the truck failed to make a turn onto Gerber Road, colliding with a fence and ending up in a canal.
CHP said the suspect then ran away from his vehicle and was apprehended by Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies.

SOUTH SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento Sheriff's deputies said a vehicle's tires caught fire after a chase in South Sacramento Tuesday evening.
The chase ended at Power Inn Road and Gerber Road where CHP officers and Sheriff's deputies took the subject into custody.
Firefighters responded to the scene to fight the vehicle fire while authorities took the subject into custody.
Officials said the chase started at Highway 50 and Hazel around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
According to police, the suspect ditched his car near the canal at Gerber and Power Inn Road before taking off on foot.
