Shark Found Dead In Clovis Irrigation Canal
CLOVIS, Calif. (CBS13) -- Fresno County residents made a bizarre discovery Tuesday in a canal near Clovis, authorities said.
The Clovis Police Department said animal control officers were notified by a Clovis Transit bus driver who saw a crowd gathering at a canal near Santa Ana Avenue and Minnewawa Avenue around noon Tuesday.
When the bus driver returned along the route a few minutes later, he saw that a shark had been removed from the water and was the focus of a number of camera-wielding witnesses.
Animal control officers said the three-and-a-half foot long leopard shark appeared to have been dead for a few days and may have been someone's pet.
Leopard sharks are native to California coastlines but require cool salt water to survive.
