SF Radio Stations Ban Lorde's 'Royals' Song For Duration Of World Series
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS13) – Two San Francisco Bay Area radio stations have caught Giants fever and will be refusing to play a popular song until the World Series ends.
The Giants will be squaring off against the Kansas City Royals come Tuesday. While you could argue that New Zealand singer Lorde's hit song "Royals" is probably not about the scrappy southern baseball club, enough listeners complained to have the song pulled from Bay Area radio.
"Our listeners told us to do it, so we did it! As of 4pm today we've removed Lorde- Royals from our playlist until the end of the World Series. Go Giants, beat the Royals!" wrote Brian Figula, KOIT 96.5's program director, in a Friday post on the station's website.
KFOG Radio also declared their airwaves a "Royals"-free zone.
"No offense, Lorde, but for the duration of the World Series, KFOG Radio will be a "Royals"-free zone. We're sure you understand," wrote the station in a post on their Facebook page.
Not be outdone, however, a Kansas City radio station declared that they will be playing the song every hour on the hour on the opening night of the World Series.
"A few angry San Franciscans who don't have a song called 'Giants' won't rain on our parade," wrote Tony Lornio, 99.7 The Point's program director.
