SF Police Recover Parolee's Gun From Self-Inflicted Shooting
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- San Francisco police say they have recovered the gun a 19-year-old parolee from Washington had when he fatally shot himself during a police pursuit.
Police announced the gun's recovery on Thursday. According to police, a resident of the city's Bayview neighborhood led officers to the silver and black .380-caliber weapon. Police said ballistics tests confirmed that the semi-automatic pistol held the bullet that claimed Kenneth Harding's life.
Someone apparently picked it up from the crime scene in the aftermath of the July 16 shooting.
Police have said Harding shot himself while running from officers checking for fare cheats on a light-rail train. They say it's not clear whether Harding killed himself intentionally or by accident
Harding's family has questioned the police's account, saying they don't believe he shot himself.
