Sexual Assault Raises Safety Concerns In Davis
DAVIS (CBS13) — A sexual assault in a popular park is raising concerns in Davis.
The most recent assault happened at Community Park after the victim left Bistro 33. The UC Davis student was allegedly gang raped after a night out in Downtown Davis.
No suspects have been arrested in the case.
"It's a safe community, but yeah, we've had our share recent of violent crimes recently that have kept us busy," said Lt. Ton Phan.
He's referring to the stabbing death of a man in at KetMoRee Restaurant and Bar. That stabbing prompted a moratorium on new nightclubs in the city.
Davis Mayor Dan Wolk says he's sick of hearing about crime increasing in Downtown, mostly after dark. While the city's downtown is popular, it's also seen as a party destination in the region, which brings issues.
Among the ideas being discussed are more security requirements for bars and nightclubs, standardized training for staff, and stopping alcohol service well before 2 a.m.
