Sex Case Against Former Modesto Teacher James Hooker Moves Forward
MODESTO (CBS13) - The former Modesto high school teacher who is in a sexual relationship with a former student of his was held to answer charges that he sexually molested another student 14 years ago.
James Hooker, 42, was in a Stanislaus County courthouse on Tuesday and the judge ruled there was enough evidence for him to go to trial and that the statue of limitations didn't apply to allegations that he performed a sex act on a 17-year-old girl in 1998.
The alleged victim said she came forward after seeing news reports of Hooker's relationship with a former student of his at Enochs High School, Jordan Powers, who is now 18.
Hooker resigned his teaching position and left his wife and children after his relationship with Powers became public. He has not been charged with any crimes associated with that relationship. Powers reportedly left him after his arrest April 6 but has seen gotten back together with him.
Her mother, Tammie Powers, said Hooker contacted his daughter constantly after his arrest to get her to come back to him.
Hooker's arraignment was scheduled for Nov. 6 at 9:30 a.m.
