Senior Moments: Parking Palooza
By Frank Luna
You knew it was coming, what about parking at the US Senior Open this year?
It seems things are fairly organized with general parking at the huge Cal Expo lot and free shuttle service to and from the golf course.
The long ride in hot weather in school buses with no air conditioning can be taxing, but to be fair, this is not out of the norm for such an event.

With area parking lots and side streets off-limits to Open patrons, and Marconi Avenue closed from Watt Avenue to the Town & Country area, Cal Expo seems the best option.
But here's a thought, and I must give my younger brother Tom proper attribution for this epiphany.

The mile long strip of Marconi Ave. 40 or so yards wide would seem to be the perfect parking lot, close, convenient, and I wouldn't even try to guess how many cars you could fit into this area.
Charge a premium and the revenue you'd generate could be staggering. I'm sure there'd be no shortage of takers opting to park a short distance from the front gate.
I probably sound like a Monday morning parking lot critic, and it's a good bet this option was considered, but if not, maybe it's not too late?
