Secret Service Investigating Turlock Woman For Threatening Facebook Post
TURLOCK (CBS13) - The United States Secret Service is now investigating a post-election Facebook rant against the president.
The post used a racial slur against President Barack Obama, and went on to say that maybe the president would get assassinated this term.
A 22-year-old made some explosive statements on Facebook, and her comments were so inflammatory that she was fired from her job at Cold Stone Creamery.
Her post about Obama made it all over the internet, and all around the world.
"Another 4 years of this (N-word)," Denise Helms wrote on her Facebook Tuesday night, according to the Modesto Bee. "Maybe he will get assassinated this term."
"My reaction is kind of like wow. I'm kind of surprised someone said that," said Turlock resident Navi Gill.
"That's just wrong," said Kaleb Jones. "I wouldn't post that about anybody, let alone the president."
After her post, she lost her job.
The owner of the Turlock ice cream shop released a statement saying, "Denise Helms is no longer with us. I sincerely apologize to everyone. I apologize to the people of Turlock and I apologize to President Obama."
Her comments are disturbing, but some say it's her right to say what she wants, no matter how offensive and who it's about.
"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion," said one man.
But there's a line between free speech and crime, especially when it comes to the president. Any perceived threat against the president is a felony. This Facebook post has now sparked a Secret Service investigation.
CBS13's Laura Cole spent most of her day looking for the 22-year-old, but couldn't find her. It appears that she may have deactivated her Facebook account after this story spread around the world.
