Second Suspect Arrested For Stabbing Outside Sikh Temple In Yuba City
YUBA CITY (CBS13) – A second suspect has been arrested for a stabbing after violence erupted at the Sikh Temple near Yuba City earlier this month.
The Sutter County Sheriff's department says 47-year-old Parminder Kooner turned himself in on Monday in the stabbing of 30-year-old Ajaib Malhi. Kooner will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Detectives previously arrested Mangal Singh Sanghera, 43, of Yuba City for the stabbing of another man, 46-year-old Balbir Bains. Sanghera was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and violation of probation. He's being held without bail at the Sutter County Jail.
The stabbings happened during a large altercation at the temple on Tierra Buena Road involving 50-100 people fighting with sticks on November 10.
The fight is the latest outbreak of violence between two opposing factions at the temple. Tensions have escalated after the current board of directors voted in August to extend their term limits two years rather than hold a scheduled election.
The fight took place a week after the annual Sikh Parade attracted thousands to Yuba City for a religious procession celebrating the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism.
