Police Suspect Alcohol A Factor In Vacaville Double-Fatal Crash
VACAVILLE (CBS13) — As friends and family mourned two teens killed in a crash that injured three more, police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor.
Gilbert Guzman, 19, and Christie Brinsley, 16, both of Vacaville, died after the truck they were in flipped several times off of Pleasant Valley Road. All five teens inside were thrown from the vehicle.
Police suspect Guzman, the driver, was drunk and speeding when he lost control.
John Carr with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control says if alcohol was involved, an agent will look into where the alcohol came from.
"It happens more frequently than we certainly like to see," he said.
If ABC finds a liquor store, bar or restaurant provided the teens with alcohol, their liquor license is likely as good as gone. In addition, a $1,000 fine, community service and even jail time can be handed down.
Meanwhile, friends of the victims are having to learn a life lesson the hard way—to steer clear of alcohol while behind the wheel.
A service and burial for Guzman is planned for Friday in Vacaville.
