Screamer Standing Tall Again At Scandia Fun Center

NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) – The Screamer is back. Crews installed a new ride at the Scandia Fun Center on Monday in North Highlands.

The replacement ride was needed after a crane came crashing down bringing the original Screamer ride with it about eight months ago.

Two workers were injured in that accident that happened when crews were attempting to make repairs to the thrill ride, which spans 165 feet and swings riders around at 60 miles per hour.

Scandia was fined thousands of dollars for safety violations after investigations showed that neither Scandia nor the crane company it hired knew how much the Screamer weighed.

As with the original Screamer, screaming is a no-no on the ride. You will be asked to stop or leave if you can't control your screams while on the Screamer.

The fun center sits along Interstate 80 near Madison Avenue, but it's actually the neighbors across the freeway, not behind the amusement park, who have complained about the disruptive screamers.

The new Screamer will be ready for riders in a few weeks.
