Screamer Ride About Ready For Return At Scandia
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Park-goers will soon see the return of the popular, stomach-dropping ride at the Scandia Family Fun Center in Sacramento.
The new 18,000-pound Screamer at Scandia is nearly assembled and ready for … no screaming?
"That's correct," said Brian Nichols, head of maintenance at Scandia, of the no-screaming rule. "If you do, we ask that you stop or you have to leave. It's to coordinate with the neighborhood."
The fun center sits along Interstate-80 near Madison Avenue, but it's actually the neighbors across the freeway, not behind the amusement park, who have complained about the disruptive screamers.
But the screaming ban may be nearly impossible for riders as the 165-foot park attraction whips them around at 60 mph with the force of 3 Gs.
"It's an adrenaline rush," Nichols said. "When you're up there and come down, it feels like your going to land on the freeway."
And Nichols said adrenaline junkie should expect a similar experience to riding the park's old Screamer.
"It's basically the same. We added some new booms and some lighting," Nichols said.
The old ride is now barely recognizable as it lies disassembled and has been out of commission after crashing during a maintenance test last August. The accident injured one worker.
"We were originally bringing it down for a transmission problem," Nichols said "That's been corrected. We got all new parts and everything's good."
The park's sky-high popular attraction will be hoisted by crane and assembled by a crew of four on Monday. It will be ready for riders in just a few weeks.
Riders will notice another addition at Scandia - the Scrambler. This ride whips you around at 55 mph.
