School Redistricting Draws Fire From Elk Grove Parents
ELK GROVE (CBS13) -- A heated debate broke out between parents and Elk Grove school officials over the proposal to draw new school district boundaries.
School district board members took a verbal pummeling from a crowd of more than 500 parents over the announcement that many kids could be sent to different schools because of the need to redistrict.
The economic downturn forced many residents to move out of Elk Grove, leaving the once-booming school district eroded.
The district is proposing to make the changes immediately after this school year ends to deal with wildly fluctuating school enrollments; one high school has less than 1,000 students, and another has more than 3,000.
Officials will be voting on the issue next month.
