School Bus With Children On Board Involved In Accident In Elk Grove
ELK GROVE (CBS13) - The latest on an accident involving a school bus and two cars in Elk Grove:
9:45 a.m.
The Elk Grove Unified School District says one of the students on the bus attends Elk Grove High School, while the three other students attend Joseph Kerr Middle School.
All the passengers on the bus suffered minor to no injuries. The driver, the bus attendant and three of the students (the high school and two from the middle school) have been transported to the hospital as a precaution.
The district says CHP will be investigating the incident.
"The safety of our students and staff is a top priority. California has the highest standards in the nation for school bus construction and driver training to keep our kids safe in the event of an accident. Each EGUSD bus is equipped with Global Positioning Systems (GPS), which allows us to locate the bus in the event of an emergency," the district said in a statement.
8:21 a.m.
The Elk Grove Unified School District says there were four students on the bus. Three of the students, the bus driver and a bus attendant were transported to the hospital. All injuries their injuries are expected to be minor.
The bus was carrying special needs students and is equipped with seat belts, the district says. It is unknown if all passengers were wearing seat belts.
CHP will be reviewing video and GPS surveillance that was equipped with the bus.
CHP originally reported that the other driver had died. They're now saying that person suffered serious injuries.
7:50 a.m.
The school bus overturned in the crash, police say.
One of the other cars involved in the accident went off the road and struck a tree, police say.
Elk Grove police say they are assessing injuries, but the Elk Grove Unified School District says, for the most part, no one on the bus suffered major injuries.
7:31 a.m.
Authorities are responding to an accident involving a school bus in Elk Grove.
The scene is on Wilton Road, south of Grant Line Road. Elk Grove police say a bus and two sedans were involved in the accident.
Elk Grove police confirm there are children on the bus, but it is unclear at this point if there are any injuries.
