Sanders Continues California Tour With Stop In Modesto
MODESTO (CBS13) – Bernie Sanders was Modesto on Thursday for his second rally in our area this week.
It's the first time a major presidential candidate has visited the city since back in 2007 when Republican John McCain made a campaign stop.
The rally happened at the Modesto Centre Plaza along L Street.
Sanders is hoping to maintain momentum after a big turnout at UC Davis yesterday.
"If we win California and if – as I hope and expect we will – do well in the other five states, it will give us an enormous amount of momentum as we're going to Washington DC and as we go into the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia," Sanders said.
Sanders told CBS13 yesterday he hopes super delegates at the Democratic Convention will vote in his favor, helping him surpass Hillary Clinton's lead.
Actress Susan Sarandon had a crowd of hundreds fired up as she got them ready for Sanders' message.
"We are at such a special time in history; this is the tipping point," she said.
Six states will head to the polls next week, but Sanders has the most on the line here in California with the most delegates up for grabs.
After the rally in Modesto on Thursday, Sanders heads to Chico for an event at 7:30 p.m., then he's back in our area tomorrow afternoon for a rally in Fairfield.
