San Mateo Mountain Lion Sedated
SAN MATEO, Calif. (AP) - Police say a mountain lion sighted three times in a residential area of San Mateo has been safely sedated and is in the custody of officials with the state's Department of Fish and Wildlife.
San Mateo police says officers and Fish and Wildlife officials located the big cat in a tree in a residential backyard Monday evening.
After being hit with a tranquilizer dart the mountain lion fled a brief distance into some nearby bushes, where three officers picked him up and put him in a pickup truck.
Police say the first report of the cat came in about 4:30 a.m. Later Monday, a San Mateo police officer responding to the report spotted the medium-sized, 60- to 80-pound cat walking toward the rear of an apartment building.
