San Francisco Pier 39 Sea Lions Entangled In Ocean Trash

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Wildlife rescuers are trying to corral two sea lions that have been spotted at San Francisco's Pier 39 with wires around their necks.

Officials with the Sausalito-based Marine Mammal Center say they have tried four times to capture the animals only to have them go back into the water.

The latest attempt was on Tuesday.

Marine Mammal Center spokesman Jim Oswald tells the San Francisco Chronicle he hopes the animals will go somewhere such as a beach where it would be easier to capture them.

The extent of the animals' injuries is not clear. But officials say sea lions have died from such entanglements.
