San Francisco Giants Select Rocklin High Pitcher Logan Webb In Fourth Round Of MLB Draft
ROCKLIN (CBS13) — A pitcher from Rocklin High School is one step closer to living his lifelong dream after being selected by the San Francisco Giants.
Off the field, Logan Webb is as an unassuming a guy as you'll ever meet.
"That's his personality; that's the way he is," said Rocklin High coach Roc Murray. "Tremendous competitor—he will go out and fight you tooth and nail."
Webb was selected in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft on Friday, the highest a Rocklin High pitcher has been selected.
But he has a decision to make. Webb already committed to Cal Poly, a team that just knocked Sacramento State out of the College World Series this past weekend.
He can either go to college, or join the Giants organization. Right now, he isn't saying which way he's leaning.
After a sparking senior season, Webb has a chance to pitch for his hometown team, though he says he's an Oakland Athletics fan. But being drafted by the Giants will likely change that.
Logan's parents say he's dreamed of playing in the big leagues since he was 2 years old.
It wasn't until just four weeks ago when Webb's fastball was clocked in the upper-90s that dozens of scouts started taking notice.
He led his league in RBIs as well, so playing in the National league where pitchers have to hit would suit him just fine.
"He might be able to knock a run in every once in a while," Murray said.
Where does the teen see himself in five years?
"Hopefully pitching at AT&T, hanging out with Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum," he said.
It sounds surreal to hear him say it, but don't be surprised to someday see this high-school senior with a rocket arm take the hill for the Giants.
