Sacramento Woman's Treasured Statue From Late Husband Stolen From Her Yard
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A huge statue was stolen right from the front of a Sacramento woman's house, and now she's desperate for help to track it down.
Stealing it wasn't easy - and hiding it can't be either. That's giving the owner hope somebody will spot it.
"I have come to love that statue," Sharon Lukehart said Monday. "It's beautiful."
But it wasn't just its beauty. It was a feeling Sharon got about the love of her life.
"Every time I walked into the yard and saw that statue, it reminded me of Don," she said.
Sharon's husband Don passed away more than six years ago from cancer, but before that, he bought his wife of more than 50 years the towering 8-foot tall statue of a boy pushing a girl on a swing.
But now it's gone.
"Really, I just want it back and I will pay a reward for it," she said.
Someone came into Sharon's front yard at her Arden-Arcade home last week, cut a lock to her gate and hauled away the very heavy statue.
Sharon has called scrap yards for help, convinced someone's trying to cash in on the bronze behemoth.
"I've called the major recyclers and had pretty good luck," she said. "They all took my name and phone number."
But so far, no calls. Neighbors who are used to seeing the piece are also disgusted.
"I just think it really stinks that someone can come into a nice lady's yard like that and rip her off," Chris Appel said.
Sharon is just begging for it back. Her husband is gone, but she prays one of his last gifts just might return.
"It's like losing a little piece of him again," she said.
