Sacramento Vice Mayor Apologizes To Woman For Using Expletive

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) –- On Tuesday a Sacramento activist who was called an expletive by the city's vice mayor at a council meeting last week got the apology she wanted -– but didn't expect to hear.

It was a very tense evening as the council considered redistricting options for the city last week. Vice Mayor Bonnie Pannell, still steaming over her interaction with Margo Rose-Brunson, whispered an expletive under her breath -- and her microphone picked it up.

Later, Rose-Brunson demanded an apology. Pannell offered one to the community as a whole but not to Rose-Brunson.

Tuesday, Rose-Brunson showed up at the council meeting expecting to confront Pannell, but not expecting an apology.

"And no I don't expect for her to," she said. "I expect for her to do a stand-off."

"I'm not here to fight with you," Brunson said to Pannell during Tuesday's meeting. "I don't even know you. All I wanted was for you to feel what I felt when you called me an a-----. That's what I wanted."

But before Rose-Brunson continued, Pannell interjected.

"I need to apologize to my colleagues on the council, to citizens of Sacramento and to Ms. Margo Rose-Brunson. I know you have a presentation, but after you've done the presentation please accept my apology."

That was enough for Rose-Brunson.

"I accept your apology and I don't want to be in no political battle with nobody. Thank you."

And with that, she walked away from the podium to applause from the meeting attendees.
