Sacramento State Sexual Assault Suspect Chased Down by Police
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A suspected sexual predator was tracked down thanks to help from residents and the reverse-911 system.
Police say the attack happened just before 10 a.m. when a woman was reportedly attacked on a trail near the H Street Bridge near the Sacramento State campus. A struggle followed, someone called 911 and the chase was on.
For about two hours, the suspect, 19-year-old Dakota Bearshield, was on the run, ducking in and out of backyards and alleys. But at almost every turn, someone saw him, knew why he was running and called police.
"We put out a reverse 911," said Doug Morse with the Sacramento Police Department.
The system lets neighbors in the area know what a suspect looks like and what he's wanted for.
Sheila Taylor lives near Bell Street and Roselake Avenue. She says Bearshield almost knocked her down trying to get away from police.
"The next thing I know, police were racing out and they said, 'Get back in the house,' and I froze up," she said.
With cops everywhere, and a bloodied Bearshield standing in the middle of the street, it was a spectacle.
