Sacramento Repeals 'Crash Tax'
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- A controversial Sacramento ordinance that would have charged out-of-town motorists hundreds of dollars for responding to a vehicle crash been repealed.
The Sacramento Bee reports that in a 6-2 vote, the City Council moved Tuesday to cancel the so-called "crash tax," which would have been levied in a crash where the fire department had to respond.
The ordinance had been passed in January, but council members decided earlier this month to vote again on the tax.
The unpopular tax has been debated in other cities and some states, however at least six states ban local crash taxes.
