Sacramento Psychologist Says Rescued Cleveland Women Have Long Road Ahead
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — It will be a long road to recovery for the three women found in a Cleveland home on Monday.
Dr. Diane Powell, a psychologist in Sacramento, has been working with traumatized and PTSD patients and families for more than 30 years.
She says just like soldiers returning home from combat, kidnapping victims may also go through similar emotional trauma.
The difference is, kidnapping victims may be able to talk about their experience, while veterans may not.
But she also says eventually talking about the experience can be good therapy for combat soldiers and kidnapping victims.
She added it may take years of therapy for the healing to begin.
