Sacramento Police Announce K-9 Bodie's Retirement
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - It was announced Wednesday that after three years of service, Bodie -- the local canine shot in the line of duty -- is hanging up his badge.
The Sacramento Police K-9 unit held a news conference to officially announce the German shepherd's retirement.
"He just wasn't at a point, for his own safety, to return to work with the injuries that he had," Sgt. Steve Oliveira said.
Last May, Bodie was shot while chasing down a suspect in Land Park. As a result, he's had multiple surgeries and continues to recover from his injuries. He is one of only two Sacramento police canines that have been shot in the line of duty.
Bodie will spend his retirement with his handler -- Officer Randy Van Dusen.
Dusen will also get a new K-9 partner -- Boscoe.
