Sacramento Park Development Could Cost Tax Payers Additional $275K
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Where ducks paddle and people take a spring stroll is a big open space.
"We like it," said Samuel Ekundayo. "it's open and beautiful."
However, there are big plans for the future.
The designs for the park show plans of athletic fields and eventually a whole lot more as it develops.
Olympic Land Construction bid under $3.5 million, the lowest bid.
But, the Sacramento city council is expected to approve the second lowest bid, costing $275,000 more.
It's all because of missing papers listing subcontractors for the project.
Olympic Construction tells CBS13, they had those papers and don't know what happened to them.
The company appealed to the city but got a letter saying, "The omission of required information will render the bid non-responsive."
"I think it's unfortunate when things like that happen and I think it's a costly mistake," said park goer Missy Rawlins.
Olympic Land wanted the city to re-open the bidding process but the city is refusing.
City representatives have not returned CBS13's request for comment.
It's a different kind of bidding war, fighting over who gets to build this park and how much it should cost taxpayers, when every dollar spent seems to count more now than ever before.
