Sacramento Make-A-Wish Celebrates 30 Years; Grants 5,000th Wish
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The Sacramento Make-A-Wish chapter is celebrating 30 years of granting wishes to kids facing terminal diseases.
As part of the celebration, the foundation granted its 5,000th wish to an unsuspecting teen battling leukemia for eight months.
Sixteen-year-old Ethan thought he was showing up for a benefit breakfast for the foundation. About half-way through Mayor Kevin Johnson's speech, the teen realized the mayor was introducing him, and granting his wish of having his own, used, baby grand piano.
There are about 450 eligible wish kids in the Sacramento community; but, due to funding, the organization can only grant about half of those wishes.
The average cost of each wish is about $5,000.
