Sacramento Led Nation In Job Losses Last Year

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- New statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor show that the Sacramento region suffered the most severe job losses in the nation in the last calendar year.

Most metropolitan areas in the country saw overall job growth last year, but the California Capitol region lost more than 14,500 jobs between January 2010 and January 2011, the biggest employment decrease in the country.

The somber statistic covers job losses in the Sacramento, Arden-Arcade and Roseville areas.

Of the 16 regions with unemployment rates of more than 15 percent in January 2011, 12 were located in California, the federal government report said.

The national unemployment rate was calculated at 9.8 percent, down from 10.6 percent at the same time last year. The report stated that 282 of the 372 metro regions in the country saw decreases in their unemployment rates, 73 areas saw increases, and 17 areas remained unchanged.
