Sacramento Jewish Community Celebrates Second Night Of Hanukkah With Capitol Menorah Lighting
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento's Jewish community celebrated the second night of Hanukkah with the annual lighting of the Menorah at the California state capitol on Monday.
The 21st annual menorah lighting comes less than a week after Gov. Jerry Brown called off the Christmas tree lighting in wake of the San Bernardino shootings.
The Jewish community of Sacramento was determined to fight darkness with light, marking the second night of Hanukkah with a giant menorah lighting and a larger message.
"We know goodness will prevail like it did in history, Greeks fell, Germans fell, Nazis fell," said Rabbi Mendy Cohen. "We believe that the menorah is the answer to terrorism."
He invited global terror expert Amir Hamidi to shed light on dealing with the fear of terror.
"We need to be very observant, vigilant," Hamidi said. "We need to protect our community—the places we work and the places we live."
Gov. Jerry Brown was not in attendance, because he's still in Paris.
