Calif. Firefighters Honor Fallen Responders At Annual Sacramento Tower Climb
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - California firefighters paid tribute to 9-11 first responders with a stair climb in downtown Sacramento Wednesday.
The 5th annual event honored the 343 New York City firefighters who paid the ultimate sacrifice more than a decade ago.
The climb was held at the Renaissance Tower on 8th and K Streets.
One firefighter spoke about the conditions the fallen firefighters endured during the attacks.
"They were climbing in many times dark, smoke, heat. It's a much different scenario than we climb in today, versus what they climbed in," said Lloyd Ogan. "I don't even know if we can really imagine what they were climbing in."
Each climber put the name of a firefighter who died on the back of his or her coat and carried it four times from the lobby to the roof, to replicate the 110 floors of the World Trade Center.
