Sacramento Considers Banning Barbecues Along Most Of American River Parkway
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - This will be the last weekend that barbecues are allowed in many parts of the American River Parkway if Sacramento County Supervisors pass an urgency ordinance next week.
Park supervisors blame the drought, saying that the extremely dry conditions are creating high fire danger along the 23-mile parkway.
On Tuesday county leaders will vote on banning all charcoal, gas, wood, and electric barbecues, except in pre-approved picnic areas.
They will also consider banning smoking, except on levees, golf courses, picnic, and paved areas.
The parkway has already seen an increase in fires this summer and the loss of wildlife habitat will take decades to recover according to the county.
