Sacramento-Area Water Districts Say They Don't Have Plans To Raise Rates, Yet

CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) — The San Juan Water District's rate increase during California's drought may be the first of many hitting customers in the pocketbook.

Citrus Heights resident Jay Eisenberg says he won't mind if his water bill goes up.

"I think that everybody has to do their part," he said.

The Citrus Heights Water District can't afford to be fined if its customers don't cut back on water usage, so it may add a drought surcharge.

But residents like Alicia Wilson think she and many of her neighbors have already done their part.

This comes on the heels of the San Juan Water District board voting on Wednesday night to impose its drought surcharge of $5 a month on bi-monthly bills for an average household.

Orangevale Water Company says it's not charging customers more for now as it waits for the State Water Resources Control Board's final water conservation guidelines next week.

Other districts like West Sacramento, Elk Grove, and Placer County say they have no plans to charge customers more.
