Sac Police Opens Up Reverse 911 To Cell Phones

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- City residents can now register their mobile phones and internet phone numbers for emergency law enforcement notifications in their neighborhood.

The Sacramento Police Department announced Thursday that their Reverse 911 system now allows Sacramento citizens to register both cell phone and many Voice-Over IP -- or VOIP -- phone services to a physical address.

Out-of-area residents who work within city limits can register their phone for notifications of incidents around their place of employment, authorities said.

The system is used to issue alerts to specific neighborhoods during health and safety emergencies such as evacuations, at-risk missing person reports and criminal incidents. Landline phones are already included in the Reverse 911 system.

Interested residents and workers can register their phone numbers and find out more information on the Sacramento Police Department's website.
