Sac Metro Responds To 3 House Fires Overnight

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Sacramento Metro firefighters battled three house fires overnight.

Units responded to the first fire at 10:42 p.m. at 5818 Longs Peak Place. Initial callers reported seeing a fireball and hearing explosions. Units arrived to find heavy fire between two houses with one on fire, and small propane tanks exploding.

Crews worked to put out the fires, protect the non-involved house and cool the propane tanks.

No one was injured in the blaze. Damage to the involved house was estimated to be $20,000. The neighboring house suffered no fire damage.

Shortly after 2 a.m. in the Arden Arcade area, Metro Fire units were called out to an unoccupied duplex at 3418 Lerwick Road.

"When we got there, we had a well-involved attic fire with flames blowing out the roof," Battalion Chief Steve Turner said.

The vacant house had no electrical or gas service, leaving the cause of the fire undetermined at this point.

Meanwhile, 23 other Metro firefighters were battling a fire at 6635 Lincoln in Carmichael, with live wires down. No one was injured in that fire either and the blaze was contained to the home.

"If somebody would have stepped on that in the right manner or if it would have an uninsulated portion of it, they would have been killed," Battalion Chief Patrick Ellis said of the live wire.

Anyone with information on any of these fires is asked to call the Metro Fire Arson Tip Line at (916) 859-3775.
