Sac Businesses Step Up To Support Kings

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- More businesses are stepping forward with pledges of money to keep the Sacramento Kings in town, and NBA officials are back in town to crunch the numbers on the franchise's possible move.

Current and new sponsors have stepped forward to pledge more than $10 million if the Kings remain in town for another season, according to city officials.

William Mooney, the vice president of Gold River-based software company Synergex, said he considers the Kings to be one of Sacramento's "biggest assets" and hopes to meet with NBA executives Tuesday to explain why the company is prepared to write a hefty deposit check as a new sponsor.

"We're an international company. When I travel on the road and visit customers, they identify with Sacramento and identify with the Kings," Mooney said.

More than 2 dozen local companies, including Markstein Beverage and Thunder Valley Casino, have also led the charge to show the NBA that the Kings can still be a profitable team in Sacramento, according to a spokesperson for Mayor Kevin Johnson.

Western Health Advantage community relations director Rick Heron said his company is planning to increase their sponsorship.

The owners of the Kings, the Maloof brothers, have not commented on recent developments. They have until May 2 to file to relocate the team.
