UPDATED: Roseville Grass Fire Burns Multiple Homes Near Maidu Park
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) - A large grass fire has burned multiple structures in Roseville and is forcing evacuations, say fire officials.
Children were seen playing in Maidu Park around 3 p.m. when the fire broke out near Johnson Ranch Drive and Rocky Ridge Drive.
Multiple fire agencies responded to the 30-acre fire. Roseville firefighters notified residents in 256 homes to evacuate.
As many as five homes have been damaged by the fire.
A CBS13 viewer called the station reporting that three of her neighbors' homes are on fire.
Roseville firefighters warn that the rain predicted for next week does not mean a busy fire season will be stopped.
"That's not going to end fire season," said Asst. Fire Chief Jeff Carman.
The fire also forced Roseville to cancel a campfire at the Maidu Museum Friday, as well as some softball games at the park. The city says they will be rescheduled.
