Police: Suspicious Package Delivered To Roseville Church Not A Threat
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — Police determined there was no credible threat to a Roseville church after a suspicious package that was delivered Tuesday afternoon.
The scene was at the Abundant Life Church in Roseville.
Roseville police say the front of the church and nearby streets were closed and a bomb squad responded for the investigation. After their investigation, police say no explosive device was found and there was no threat to the church. Officials say the package could be related to the Easter Holiday.
The church had been one of the few in the greater Sacramento area to refuse to shut its doors amid California's stay-at-home order.
Placer County public health officials sent the church an email last week urging the pastor to stop in-person gatherings.
Services were still held on Sunday at the church with parishioners inside. However, an announcement was also made that services - starting with the upcoming Easter Sunday gathering - would only be held online.
"I'm not cancelling cause of any other reason except for the threats toward our church and our people," Pastor Doug Bird said.
"As soon as I saw it I took off running to the other side of the parking lot, when I got over there I started laughing at myself. If they wanted to get my attention, they did," Pastor Bird said. "When I looked at it, it looked like it was a metal and had a wire thing coming off of it."
It's still not clear where the package came from. Roseville Police said if they figured that out, that person would likely not face any charges.
