Rosemont High School Student Hospitalized With Bacterial Meningitis
ROSEMONT (CBS13) – Students are being alerted and the campus deep cleaned at Rosemont High School in Sacramento after a student contracted meningitis, according to school officials.
The parents of the student alerted school officials over the weekend that their child was hospitalized with bacterial meningitis which can be deadly.
School officials used an automated system to alert parents of the meningitis and its symptoms.
The district will also be sending a letter home with students today giving the campus a deep cleaning, according to Sacramento Unified School District spokesperson Gabe Ross.
The Sacramento County Department of Health is identifying students who were in close contact with the infected student and should being give antibiotics as a precaution.
According to the California Department of Health, high fever, headache and stiff neck are common symptoms of meningitis. Bacterial meningitis can be spread through coughing, kissing and sneezing.
There is a vaccine that can prevent many of the leading causes of bacterial meningitis.
