Ron Paul Visits UC Davis
DAVIS (CBS13) - He may not have planned it this way, but the thousands who came to see Presidential Candidate Ron Paul (R-Texas), some even perched in trees, came to the same quad where the campus police pepper sprayed protesters last November.
"He's the one that's been talking about the growing police state of our country," said UC Davis graduate Amir Sarkeshik.
Paul told CBS13 that he didn't recall seeing the video.
"I don't know what the circumstances were there, but we should always lean towards the maximum amount of freedom of speech," said Paul.
Paul did speak out against another headline-grabbing case this week about federal officers detaining and leaving a San Diego student alone in a cell for five days.
"The DEA arresting college students, and throwing them in a cell and forgetting about them," he said.
The lone Republican presidential candidate challenging Mitt Romney has only a fraction of the delegates and cash on hand. When asked how he can campaign against Romney, who has quite a bit more money, Paul said, "You win the hearts and minds and get the enthusiasm."
This Republican from Texas is running on less government, and more personal liberties.
Campaigning on college campuses in California, crowds are coming to see him.
"He's much more interesting then the rest and his views, nobody else has those kind of views," said UC Davis student Keane Chukwuneta.
