Rockslide To Keep El Dorado County Road Closed For Days
PLACERVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) -- A large rockslide has completely blocked an El Dorado County road and authorities say it will take days for crews make the route accessible again.
A 250-foot section of Rock Creek Road about four miles east of Highway 193 is completely covered by a pile of debris 40 feet deep, keeping vehicle and even pedestrian traffic from using the road.
Several hundred vehicles use the road to get in and out of Placerville every day, and the only alternative route is on Mosquito Cutoff Road, a far narrower route.
The El Dorado County Department of Transportation said slides of this magnitude are rare, occurring only about once every 10 years. It could take three or four days for workers to clear off the roadway.
No injuries were reported.
