Rocklin Residents Stunned By First Homicide Since 2007
ROCKLIN (CBS13) — Rocklin residents are still stunned after a stabbing resulted in the city's first murder since 2007.
The Rocklin Police Department is still interviewing more than a dozen witnesses to the crime. They say it started as a quiet evening barbecue and birthday party until the victim's son's friend showed up.
Family and friends are leaving pictures, flowers and balloons honoring Robert Earl Vickney, Jr., 51. He's the first homicide victim in Rocklin in 6 years.
Police say the quiet community was shattered this weekend when Zachary Kachmar, 20, pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed his friend's father in the chest. Vickney died on the way to the hospital.
Investigators say it was an argument that got out of hand and quickly escalated to murder.
But what they were arguing about is still unclear.
